There’s some series I knew would suck this season. As I’ve already said, H2O was pretty much horrible in every aspect, and so I’ve dropped that already. Rosario + Vampire, well I reluctantly got through the first episode of that. I didn’t even get halfway through the second episode though before I decided I’d rather roll around on hot coals than watch that garbage any longer. It’s now joining H2O.
On to the stuff that doesn’t suck now. And I’m actually happy to say that two series in particular are well and truly making up for the shortcomings of H2O and Rosario.

So I got around to backing up the boot drive in my server and proceeded to format it so I could play with Ubuntu Server 7.10. I’d been thoroughly impressed by the experience I had under the desktop version, so I expected much the same from the server version too. In the end, it didn’t go quite as smooth as I expected, but to be fair none of the problems were really Ubuntu’s fault. Following is a bit of a long-winded description of what not to do if you plan on running a system with either software RAID, or bridged network cards.

I’ve had a dedicated fileserver for a while now. It ran Windows Home Server for a brief stint a few months ago, but as I’ve already posted, it was a load of rubbish. For the majority of the time, it’s been running Gentoo Linux - purely because I liked to keep the system as streamlined as possible, installing only what I used. It’s also taught me a lot about the inner workings of a modern Linux system.
Unfortunately, the time has come to say goodbye to Gentoo. It does what I need for now, but troubles are starting to arise with the future of the Gentoo Foundation that suggest switching to another distro would be better sooner rather than later. The foundation’s charter has been revoked for a while now, and even a simple visit to their website shows that it’s not being updated anymore. It’s an unfortunate situation. But anyone can see that the community is beginning to fall apart and the management just don’t have the same ideals that they used to.
So I’m making the obvious choice, and moving to Ubuntu. It’s much easier to run and maintain, support is extremely easy to come by, and the leadership is much more solid. Gentoo’s future remains uncertain, but Ubuntu’s isn’t.
Or “How To Fuck A Sequel”

Ok, it was no secret that I was looking forward to the next series of Gunslinger Girl. The first still remains one of the best I’ve seen. Animation was fantastic, plot was good, if a little slow, voice acting was excellent, and the show did a really, really damn good job of getting the general themes of the series across.
And now the first episode of the sequel has been released for those of us limited by our knowledge of only the English language, if you know where to look (I won’t post it after MFI made it clear that they’re a bunch of scumbags). So will someone please tell me, after the first series was so well done, how the hell did they manage to go so wrong.

Yes, it’s a new wallpaper! I promised some Spice & Wolf, so here’s some Horo.

Pretty simple wallpaper, but I’ve got another lined up for this weekend.
I’ve also fixed the wallpapers section, which hasn’t worked since I updated Wordpress and K2. It should now work.
The new season stuff has started airing, and it’s looking to be a good one already.
First out the doors though was Rosario + Vampire. It wasn’t looking good before I started, and sure enough, it’s turned out to be one major yawnfest. Characters suck, plot sucks. About the only good things are the character designs and art, but even then I’ve seen better. Every scene makes me cringe because it’s all so goddamn cliched. If terrible shows like Magikano are your thing, then by all means watch Rosario + Vampire. Personally though, I may only watch 1 or 2 more episodes before giving it a miss.

So here’s what I’m going to watch this season, because I’ve learnt not to trust Negs’ predictions. Anyway, there’s a few good shows out, and a few that could be hit and miss.

I’ve updated Wordpress to the latest version, along with adding a few new tricks to the site to try and stop spammers. Yes, it’s a captcha, but this particular one is reCAPTCHA. It’s basically using the captchas as a human OCR reader.
I’ll update the theme tonight, along with a bit of a post on what’s coming up in the January anime season.
