New Trace: Naru

Another wallpaper! After seeing how Bounen no Xamdou (Xam’d: Lost Memories) is made of pure win and awesome, I had to have it in wallpaper format. What better victim than Haru Nishimura!

Because of the wierd aspect of the original image, it comes in 3 formats: 4:3/5:4/16:9 with no logo, 16:9 with a logo in the xbox hueg blank space, or for those who want to crop it in some other wierd way, there’s the raw 4000×4495 uncropped PNG. Go nuts!

P.S. special stuff coming soon for Vista Ultimate users ;)

New trace: Anya!

Digging through /w/ on 4chan today, found a few nice Code Geass caps from the new OP that started with episode 13. Picked out a few to trace, first up was Anya. Not my favourite character of the series by any means, but I thought this one was worth tracing anyway.

Yes, lack of 4:3 and 5:4 ratios this time. Combination of laziness and widescreen source. Who doesn’t have a widescreen these days anyway?

Wallpaper: Blair

So apparently putting Lightbox and K2 in the same Wordpress install is like putting a baby in a rhinoceros enclosure. Turns out it doesn’t quite play nicely with K2’s Javascript functions. Grabbed (and slightly modified) another Lightbox plugin, and this one seems to work. Touch wood.

Anyway, new trace. Long overdue, this time it’s Blair from Soul Eater. Who can resist catgirls?

The first trace in a while I’ve done pretty much exclusively in Illustrator. Discovered a few neat tricks (notably Live Paint) that speed up the process tenfold in Illustrator CS3.

Spice & Wolf Wallpaper

Yes, it’s a new wallpaper! I promised some Spice & Wolf, so here’s some Horo.

Pretty simple wallpaper, but I’ve got another lined up for this weekend.

I’ve also fixed the wallpapers section, which hasn’t worked since I updated Wordpress and K2. It should now work.

Minami-ke, MAL and updates!

First off, a trace I’ve been trying to finish on and off for the last week. Finally got it finished today, from the ending credits of Minami-ke. May look a little wierd in 4:3/5:4 aspects, not much I could do about that without cutting Kana and Haruka off.

On to other news. NegativeZero pointed out a neat little site on his blog called My Anime List. It’s a kind of a Facebook-ish AJAX site where you can create a list of the anime you have watched and own. Kinda neat. My profile is here, tho somewhat incomplete.

I’ve updated the Wallpapers page of the site too, so now it’s current. Recent entries include: Manabi Straight, Nagasarete Airantou, Gurren Lagann and Kiddy Grade 2.

I’m back in the anime fansubbing scene too. I’ve joined a group called Subbers Anonymous, doing timing for a show called Shion no Ou. Keep an eye out for the SA releases (I’ll be doing the timing from ep 3 and hopefully onwards from there), and feel free to join us at #SubbersAnonymous on irc.rizon.net.

Gurren Lagann

Anyone who knows me well enough will know that Gainax’s recent track record does not sit well with me. Kono Minikuku no Utsukushii Sekai (This Ugly and Beautiful World) left a bitter taste in my mouth when the series took a turn for the worse about half to two thirds of the way into the series.

Gurren Lagann looked like an improvement. Konomini was a rather serious show, but TTGL is more of a comedy. I thought, they did so well with FLCL and what I saw of Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, so how could they possibly screw up another comedy?

Arr, there be Spoilers in the next paragraph.
It’s happened earlier than I thought, but with the removal of a certain character from the series and the entry of Nia, who I can’t stand, I can see this series heading for only one inevitable ending:

choo choo
All aboard!

Anyway, bitching about Gainax’s failures at plot aside, there is still one reason this show isn’t quite in the bin yet. :P

This one took a while, and was pretty tricky in places, but I’m happy with it.

Kiddy Grade 2: Ascule

More KG2? Why not. Here’s the Pedobear-bait of the series, the new Lumiereish character if you will: Ascule.

Kiddy Grade 2

In my last post, I promised Kiddy Grade 2 traces. Obviously the first had to be of Eclair. :P

Edit: I now feel rather silly, as someone on 4chan pointed out, this is actually the new lead character, Que-Feuilles. I don’t think anyone could blame me for mistaking her for Eclair with a new appearance though from not having read anything on the series. Will update the watermark and filenames when I get home.

Edit 2: Watermark and filenames updated.

One of the new shows this season which I’m keeping a close eye on is called Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. It’s the new 24-episode series from GAINAX, and it looks like I may just forgive them for all their wrongdoings with Kono Minikuku no Utsukushii Sekai.

Anyway, on to the trace. It’s one of the heaviest traces I’ve done, at 210mb for the PSD, 56 layers and 71 paths in total. But it’s one of the few recent ones where I’ve actually put effort into the background, and it paid off.

Enjoy.

Suzu

Here’s one from a new show for the spring 2007 season called Nagasarete Airantou. As a show, this is about what I expected. Guy falls off a boat, ends up on a remote island, full of women. And he can’t get off the island. It follows the incredibly cliched Love Hina formula, so there goes the story and characters out the window right there.

As you could probably guess though, there is a reason to watch these sort of shows. ;)
