Fall ‘08

…Yet another season of “meh”. There’s not a lot worth watching this season if you don’t have a thing for being screwed over by Sunrise’s ridiculous Code Geass stunts, and there’s even less next season. Hit the jump to see what’s on anyway.

Bounen no Xamdou
Bounen no Xamdou
First up, this series has already started on the Playstation Network in Japan, and can be found subbed already if you know where to look. Plot wise, it revolves around a boy who is caught in an explosion, and then afterwards transforms into The Incredible Hulk and goes on a rampage, which can only be stopped by, uh, a red-headed foreign girl. Creepy enough for ya?

That said, it is a BONES project, so it’s worth checking out. Starts on TV from 15th September.

Clannad: After Story
Clannad
This one’s a bit of a no-brainer. Despite the emo-ish plot of the original Clannad series, I loved every minute of it. Kyoto nailed everything, from the animation to the voice acting. Well, everything except a spine for Nagisa, but I digress. The only thing that frustrates me is the fact that After Story’s airing this fall pushes Haruhi back to ‘09. Oh well.

Tales of the Abyss
Tales of the Abyss
Yes, it’s time for another game adaptation! This time, with a twist. Rather than going back to ufotable, this Tales anime will be produced by the masters of ridiculous cliffhangers, and will be 26 episodes in length. How good this turns out to be is anyone’s guess, but it’s Sunrise, and the voice acting lineup looks alright (Komugi-chan!). Starts in October.

Yozakura Quartet
Yozakura Quartet
Not much is known about this one, other than the fact it revolves around 3 girls with superpowers (and one ordinary kid) who work to keep supernatural threats out of the city of Sakurakin. Ordinarily I wouldn’t watch something like this that sounds a bit too cliched, but it has some nice character designs, and is a Nomad production, carrying over most of the staff from sola. No word on cast yet. Also starts in October.

…and a bunch of OVAs
Lucky Star
Seems it’s the time of year to be flogging your popular show with OVAs to push more DVDs if some of the studios are to be believed. First up is the Lucky Star OVA, near the end of September. Likely to have more Haruhi references than you’ll be able to poke a Kyon at. We also get some sort of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei OVA too, not sure what it’s about or what the release date is.

And finally, a bonus Shigofumi episode. Which begs the question: why, for the love of god, why?
