The new season stuff has started airing, and it’s looking to be a good one already.
First out the doors though was Rosario + Vampire. It wasn’t looking good before I started, and sure enough, it’s turned out to be one major yawnfest. Characters suck, plot sucks. About the only good things are the character designs and art, but even then I’ve seen better. Every scene makes me cringe because it’s all so goddamn cliched. If terrible shows like Magikano are your thing, then by all means watch Rosario + Vampire. Personally though, I may only watch 1 or 2 more episodes before giving it a miss.
Next up was H2O ~Footprints in the Sand~. I went in fully expecting this to suck. Actually, yeah. It’s terrible. Take Rosario + Vampire, make the main character blind, take out all the humour (or attempted humour anyway), and then for good measure kick every character in the face so their cheeks look indented. And then you’ve pretty much got H2O in a nutshell.

The only other show that has actually been subbed so far is looking like it’ll quite likely be my favourite of the season. That would of course be Spice & Wolf, or Spicy Wolf, or whatever you want to call it. The art is fantastic, the soundtrack is pretty damn good, the character designs don’t suck — I think they’re even better than the manga — and the plot looks interesting to boot. Voice acting so far is also very good (and not just because most of the seiyuus were in Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion). I haven’t watched the first episode in full yet, but on first impressions, it would be an absolute crime for this show to be anything but great. It’s a shame it’s only scheduled for 12 episodes, but I guess that means that, unlike some other shows, it won’t overstay its welcome. Expect more than a few wallpapers from this.

Now, on to the other stuff that hasn’t been subbed yet. I won’t go into Gunslinger Girl, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei or Minami-ke again, because the fact that all three will be awesome goes without saying. The last series I’m really looking forward to is Shigofumi. When I wrote my last post, I was confused enough as to what the actual plot of the series was. But now there’s a trailer!
Does that make it much clearer? Not at all. Am I still looking forward to it? Fuck yes.
